Greetings!
Tomorrow I leave for SPRING BREAK 2013! I am leaving good ol' Ann Arbor on the train to Chicago in the afternoon tomorrow then Saturday I board a plane to NYC in the evening! So this means I will not post a photo for the next week or so but I will certainly be taking photos. Don't you worry!
This is what my typical work station looks like. Cheap earl grey tea, one or two creams, a couple different pens, sketchbook, wallet, phone, and lap top. This particular sketchbook is for a semi-secret project I have been working on with a couple very close friends of mine. Look for that release day in May this year.
Stay tuned! Read up!

All I know is this weather better not follow me to NYC next week!

let the sky cry
you don't have to.  let the blue that is our eyes well up clouds bloated with tears  until our sorrows  soak the clothes  the ground,  all that is exposed you are not alone.

I spent my entire day after class in the metals studio deep into the night and then further into the morning. I didn't get home until after 6 am but the important thing is I was making something. The end product is almost good enough to post but I will wait until I am satisfied.
Spring break is near and my body can feel the travel dates nearing. I am very much in need of some new surroundings, exploration, and a break from the work/school grind. I am Chicago and NYC bound. My heart is fluttering with the thought. Stay tuned.

AQUAMAN has a new album dropping very soon. I have been doing a little behind the scenes work to help the homies out. Today My buddy Sam, who you have met before, and the boys from Aquaman were shooting the music video for a song that you will hear on the album when it drops.

Here is a video previously shot for them!

More photos and links to come with time but for now, stay curious!

We are always eating the best food together! If you haven't had an ice cream sandwich from insomnia cookie you are surely missing out!
This is my really good friend Zoe. I am convinced we are travel soul mates! This past summer we drove down the west coast from Seattle Washington to Los Angeles California and for spring break we are hitting NYC for some east coast adventures.
Zoe and I go far back to freshman year here at U of M. So when we aren't scavenge hunting the USA we are cooking, eating, painting nails, dancing or holding each others sanity together by talking about our passions and distractions. Much love to this beautiful, talented, collected young woman.

Every photo has a story. I wonder if these are still being told. It is a very strange occurrence to run into this evidence of a life in these abandoned buildings. Normally there is just a cold empty feeling with just a hint that life was previously present. In this room, the walls were covered in old photos, each one trying to describe the person framed.
I always wondered where lost and forgotten things went once they were lost or forgotten. This seems pretty appropriate. I commonly wonder what happened to make people leave such precious things like photographs behind. I can imagine a dozen situations that caused this person to up root and leave but I will honestly never know.

The light came in through the window
spilling across the wall while illuminating the room
Just like every other day but today I felt it.
The light looked different and I could feel it
I opened my eyes a little wider

I sat at a table in the middle of a room
covered in rings from my tea cups
placed on the bare wood surface.
some of them looked like moons
or maybe eyes

My tea cup sat in front of me
steaming into the air
pronounced by the light
gleaming in from the window

I could feel the suns warmth
my entire body embraced
the same way your hands feel
wrapped around a freshly poured cup of tea

I took a sip
with my eyes open and
peering through the steam
sank deeper into my chair
watching the sun cast across the room
for hours transforming

Soon
my cup was empty
but I was not
The sun had fallen
but the warmth was still resonating

It is kind of poetic the way foot steps in the mud are frozen in time. Like a time lapse of people on their daily routines One person on their way to work Another maybe going to eat Some to meet up with old friends Maybe some of them are lost... Or wandering..
Layer after layer of foot steps in the ground  Thawed with the warmth of the sun Then frozen in time as the temperature drops Shaping the ground  Into some kind of time capsule With the precision of their path   The directness of each step.

Where are you going?

We stayed in bed so long I watched the hours dance across your skin in light and shadow.

Until the light turned rich with reds and purples while the sun slowly went to sleep we stayed awake.

Though the charging clouds covered the deepest blue skies spotted with white and covered the moon spilling blue gray tints over every surface, we stayed awake.
Until our world was covered in fresh water that reflect light in brilliant blues or Oranges but inside the drops on the window create shadows of moving water along our bodies from the street lights.
We stayed awake to watch them activate the skin, tracing the motions with our fingers over the bodies landscapes until our eyes grow heavy.
slipping into a dream where we do it all again, we stayed awake.

Today I was like a house cat. I didn't do much but make cards, read, and relax. After my experiences yesterday I needed some down time. I am still thinking of Manilla a lot and I miss her dearly. I just hope she is adjusting well and getting healthy.
Tonight I am going to my younger sisters play at Eastern Michigan University called Urine Town. I will post a picture from the night later.

A Story of Love at First Sight

Yesterday I experienced enough in a 15 minute span to keep me thinking deeply for half of a year. For the sake of your minds and hearts I will speak only to one thing because I feel most comfortable with it and I am not quite finished processing the other events.
I am the kind of person who believes that a lot of what happens in our lives happens for a reason and those things that happen make us ourselves. Yesterday was one of those moments for me. Let me explain...
I drove to Detroit Friday morning to help a dear friend of mine renovate the Manilla Bay Cafe which is in the 4731 Gallery on Grand River. (I do a lot of work there) He was running a little behind schedule, which is fine with me I can get lost in the city taking pictures. When I photograph Detroit I like to enter a lot of abandoned buildings to see the silence, feel the past energies, and imagine what the place was like at its busiest. So driving down Grand River I get this urge to stop at a building I have photographed the …

The feeling is Ali's bedroom is one of my favorites. She has a very distinct style for her decorating and her art has always amazed me. I look forward to incredible things from her!

Are kids not the most beautiful things you have ever seen?
I can't get enough of them but maybe its just me. For a class I am taking this semester, Empowering Families and Communities, we are required to participate in an internship once a week for two hours. 3 of my classmates and I are interning at the Detroit section of the Head Start program which is funded by the government to improve the safety, nutrition, and early education of preschool aged kids and their families. There are several sites in the Detroit area but I have been  working at one called Bibleway II. Bibleway II has three classrooms of preschoolers who are equally beautiful and full of energy!
In each of the rooms there are at least two facilitators or supervisors, in my room there is Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Hooper both are some of the most dedicated women I have ever seen or met.
This was the third time I have been to Bibleway II but only my second interaction with the kids there. I brought my camera into the c…

So I am in a branding and visual identity class for a non profit called Telling It based in Ann Arbor. The program's central focus are at risk youths and they provide a space for kids to express themselves through the arts. They do not advocate for creating a path for the kids but rather for self actualization and empowerment.

That being said in order for us to get the full feeling of Telling It and design them the best logo we attended a session for kids 8-10 years old. Not many kids showed up today because Ann Arbor public schools were closed today for reasons regarding the weather.

We did an activity with the kids involving abstract shapes cut out of construction paper. We started with a piece of colorful paper that we then each took a turn drawing a random line until an abstract shape is made. Once a shape is made we cut them out, arranged a couple of them on another piece of paper and glued them down.

So I sat there
It took me a half an hour to remember what day it is
and that the bus I was waiting for wasn't going to come for me.

I leaned my head back until
'thud'
it hit the glass behind me.
I let out a sigh and with it
my hands fell to the cold damp bench

'I guess I am trekking it...'

I have nothing but good things to say about this guy right here! I will keep it brief so I don't get all emotional. :P
This is my main man Sam and we met during my Semester in Detroit experience. Sam and I interned for the nonprofit called Neighbors Building Brightmoor on the far west side of Detroit working with kids, playing music and making art all summer. After getting over my shy ways Sam and I quickly developed a relationship that is hard to explain in words but he is cooler than you could even imagine!
This is a picture of Sam at Heidelberg bar last night with a couple other people from semester in Detroit who I am certain will be highlighted on here in the future. He attacked the jukebox in search of the jams for the crew. If you don't know Sam then you probably don't know behind those glasses is a vision through sound and he is an impressive artist. Not only is he involved in community work but he is one of the most creative people around. If you are intrigued a…

Identity.
Who am I?
That is a really challenging question to ask yourself at any age but I am convinced that some where deep down inside of us we know the real answer to that question.

Photo UPDATE

Yesterday was very eventful! One of Mel and I's favorite past times is to go thrifting together for clothes we can use for lookbook or can transform into new better items. This is Melania inspecting some pants that she turns into custom high waisted shorts.
